PhD in Communication and Information Studies

The Common Regulations for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in all Faculties shall be applicable.

Students wishing to enter the programme must hold a master’s degree in communication, media or information studies, or a related field from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate. The admission requirements include:

  1.  Presentation of an acceptable Thesis Research Proposal. Typically, the proposal describes the rationale for the study, the key questions driving the study, the methods to be used in seeking answers to those questions, and a review of the existing body of research related to the topic of study.
  2. Applicants with a master’s degree other than in communication and/or information studies will be considered for admission on the basis of their transcript and communication or information-related professional experience. These applicants may be admitted to the program on probation for the first two semesters and required to take prerequisite courses.
